Vayniris Anthology

Well, the three month extension of the six month deadline for submissions to the Vayniris Anthology Project has come and gone with no additional stories submitted.  The universe has spoken.  I'm closing the book, so to speak, on the project, and calling it quits.

I'd like to thank those who did submit stories from the bottom of my heart.  Some really awesome stuff there, and I'm very thrilled to have read such great work.  Alas, the number of stories submitted were just not enough to even begin to fill an anthology.  Thank you so much - and please feel free to re-purpose your wonderful stories elsewhere.

  1. Why not post the stories to the blog?

    1. @Spawn - I hadn't really thought of that - and it may be doable. The big problem was it was supposed to be a book with proceeds going to charity.

  2. Big guilt - I promised a story and didn't deliver. You have delivered art for me! Sorry. I have let you down.

I have not forgotten I owe you one short story. I'm just too slack to deliver!

Will the other authors allow you to publish on your blog?

    1. @Jovial - Writing can be a pain - and without some sort of spark - it's hard to get a story off the ground. I understand. Don't feel guilty. Well, unless you enjoy that sort of thing. Then I could send you my grandmother and she could really make you feel guilt.

The authors allowing the stories to be blogged would be one thing - but they would have to be edited to fit. The stories were not to be just a tome of collected shorts, but a group of stories interlinked by another story that formed the 'book end' pieces of the entire work. That part of the story would have to be edited out so they could stand alone - so there is a bit more to it.

  3. That's bad news, for the charity too. I'd recommend more posts on the subject next time you run something like this. It looks like it's been three months since the last, a long time in blogging - with a short Vayniris post weekly for example Priest might have been reminded, and the natural turnover in the audience over time could have meant a lot more people joining in as well.

    1. @Porky - Your suggestions are good ones. I really thought I had it lined up better. There were conversations that painted a much brighter future behind the scenes in emails. Of the 40 authors who showed interest, 20 said they would submit a piece. Of those 20, I received 4 submissions. Of those 4, only two were were complete and/or fit the guidelines. So, what I'm looking at is two usable stories within 9 months. At that attrition rate, I needed to get 200 authors interested to receive ten usable stories. I should have been pounding the pavement a lot more.

It's a numbers game. Lesson learned.

But thank you so much for your wonderful submission, Porky. Fantabulous imagery. I've had two dreams now where I've painted scenes from your story. Painted in the dream, that is. Probably a sign or something.

  4. Any chance you could turn it into a zine? If more follow, you could always do an anthology of those.

  5. Convert the stories to One Page Dungeons...

Jay's zine idea is really good, as well!
