Wild Hair Lady WIP

In case anyone is interested, here is a sketch of a picture I've been working on.  I've been experimenting with Autodesk SketchBook Pro, at it is pretty nifty for sketching.  I'm not so sure about using it for anything else, but for sketching, it blows away Photoshop.

In case anyone wonders WTF is going on up there, I sketch in different layers and colors, so I can keep track of newer bits as I experiment with different sizes, shapes, and positions of things.  Eventually, I just take my favorite bits and trace over them in black, then blow everything else away.  This one still has a whole lot of work to do on it before I get to the coloring stage.

So enjoy, or not.  Your choice. :)

May I recommend a masters study of Manara? (NSFW)

    1. @C - yes, that is indeed what I am trying to do.

I love Manara's work - I stumbled into some stuff of his on the Internet almost 20 years ago. You know, one of the guys I game with has a Manara dice bag. I pointed it out to him, and he just thought it was some drawing of a porn star. I almost smacked the dude. :)

So what exactly do you mean by 'masters study?' I've long thought of Manara's stuff as being too good - way out of my league for anything I could ever hope to accomplish.

    2. A master's study is exactly that. Take one of their pictures and replicate it as closely as possible.

It will greatly inform your ability. Every time I've done this exercise it was well worth it.

    3. Well, after a little research, that's what I kind of figured. Cool. I used to do master's studies all the time when I was a kid with, um, Charles Schultz. :)

Thanks for the advice. Manara would certainly be a challenge - a formidable one at that - so I suppose it's the best kind. Hmm, now how to pick a piece without getting lost in his galleries forever . . . :)
